Manchester United board has given Manager, Reuben Amorim the opportunity to turn things around immediately for the club or face the sack.
Manchester United have not had the start they were looking for, after suffering a defeat at home to Arsenal on opening day and a disappointing draw away to Fulham. The final nail hit to the coffin was the abysmal display and performance against fourth tier side, Grimsby Town in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup.

The performance was nothing to write home about us Grimsby were the better side on the day, dominating every aspect of the game, both in physicality and tactical awareness and execution. Manchester United were completely outclassed and outplayed by the fourth tier side, so much that by the end of the first half, United were down by two goals. Two goals conceded by virtue of basic mistakes by the United defence, much to the dismay of fans across the globe.
Manchester United came back in the second half to score two late goals, enough to push the game into penalties. Many believe Grimsby Town should not be able to stand toe to toe with a team like Manchester United, taking into consideration the calibre of quality possessed by both clubs. It was truly a disappointing game and it raised the topic that a lot of thing needs to change at the club moving forward.
A section of fans attribute the tragic display to the players. According to them, the players were tactically indiscipline and it seemed as though they were foreign to the sport they are involved in. These players kept committing serious basic errors that should never be made by professional players, not to talk of the kind at United.
Basic communication on the field of play amongst teammates were practically non-existent as players kept clashing, and more than one time, caught confused as to who is supposed to take possession of the ball. These basic mistakes led to the two goals, scored by Grimsby Town. Many are also of the belief, that the players are playing the manager out, and that it is a deliberate attempt to get the manager out of the door.
The manager Reuben Amorim also made the same observation, as he claimed the player ‘spoke’. Inasmuch as the players are being held responsible for their awful display, many are also of the assertion that Reuben Amorim is also part of the problem. This is linked to his supposed lack of tactical flexibility, and choosing to stick to one tactic and strategy regardless of the opposition.
Many believe that Amorim’s refusal to vary his tactics and deploy a strategy that brings out the best out of his players. A lot of hands have been pointed at the manager for cowering in the dugouts when his team needed him the most. This was largely evident in the League Cup match, as he was seen in the dugout unable to watch the shootouts.
Following that abysmal performance, many believe Amorim lacks the charisma, the right mental fortitude and the right tactical acumen to lead a team like Manchester United and many had anticipated his resignation or dismissal. According to reports, the Manchester United hierarchy are keeping faith in the manager and are backing him to turn the season around quickly. However, if results continue in this bad run, they might just have to show him the exit.
It remains to be seen how Amorim is going to tweak things to turn things around. It is still early days yet and the fortunes might change. Manchester United welcome Burnley to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, for matchday 3 in the Premier League.
✅ Man United have no plans to sack Ruben Amorim. However, there is a feeling that, if results don't improve, his stubbornness could lead to his departure, possibly next week. @JamieJackson___
