There has been a lot of anticipation going into the new season, as there is a lot of excitement and the contagious expectation that this is about to be the most cagey season ever. Fans have predicted that the team which will lift the ultimate at the end of the season will not have it easy, given the various activities going on this summer, by various clubs.

In this article we take a look at the top 5 clubs in the league and assess their summer transfer business, the strength of the teams and where we predict they might finish. In no particular order, let us dive in:

CHELSEA F.C

Premier League

The World Champions, Chelsea have been the most active in the summer transfer window. After lifting the FIFA Club World Cup in USA, when they beat European Champions PSG, The Blues have gone ahead to strengthen their team ahead of the upcoming Premier league season. Chelsea have signed a total of 10 players, with 18 departures, with some players also going out on loan.

Chelsea have signed: Willian Estevao (winger), Dario Essugo (Midfielder), Kendry Paez (Midfielder), Liam Delap (Forward), Joao Pedro (Forward), Jorrel Hato (Defender), amongst others. Chelsea have also seen notable names like Joao Felix, Noni Madueke and Kepa Arrizabalega exiting the club.

With Chelsea’s form in the Club World Cup and their preseason games, together with the signings made so far, it is no debate that they are going to be a force to reckon with and challenge for the league title. Here at SportsXG, we are predicting a 3rd place finish for the Blues of Chelsea in the Premier league season.

LIVERPOOL F.C

Premier League

Current league holders, Liverpool still remain a great contender to retain the Premier League title. Liverpool, despite the squad depth and strength, have strengthened even further. Loosing notable names like Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid; Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal; Luiz Diaz to Bayern Munich amongst others, they have also made sure to recruit very well to augment the squad, putting them in a very good place to retain the league.

Players like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremy Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have all been signed to strengthen the squad going into the season. However, their Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace exposed some loopholes in the team, and many are of the assertion they have to work on connecting on the pitch and improve on telepathy amongst each other. We tip Liverpool to finish 2nd this season in the Premier League.

MANCHESTER CITY

Premier League

Manchester City, for over 10 years now have been dominating the Premier League, winning the most league titles within this period. They have especially become more successful under Pep Guardiola. The previous campaign was described as a disaster as they failed to live up to expectations, finishing 3rd in the league, behind Liverpool and Arsenal.

Going into the summer transfer window, it came as no surprise that the Citizens went in head on, signing and recruiting some of the best players in the game today. City have strengthen their team really well, and many believe they have the best squad going into the new season.

Players like Ryan Ait-Nouri, Ryan Cherki, Tijani Reijnders, James Trafford and Sverre Nypan have all been signed. Notable names like Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish have all left the club with a lot more set to follow before the end of the transfer window.

Given their performance at the FiFa Club World Cup (despite not winning) and their summer preseason games, one could see the strength of this team and the threat they posses. We predict Manchester City to win the league this season in the Premier League.

ARSENAL F.C

Premier League

For three consecutive seasons, Arsenal under Mikel Arteta have finished second in the Premier League, falling short of their aim of winning the league. This season is no different as they seek to end their 21-year league trophy drought. With the quality available it was only going to make sense that, they strengthen their squad in order to ensure they get to the ultimate this season.

Arsenal have strenghtened significantly this summer, recruiting for positions they fall short. Players like Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalega, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Christian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres, have all come in.

There is especially more anticipation about the addition of Gyokeres, coming to strengthen a position Arsenal have struggled with for quite some time now. It is to be seen how Arsenal will parade and make use of these additions to ensure they compete with both Liverpool and Manchester City for the league.

They, however, have had a rocky preseason so far, which leave people still in doubt if Arsenal can really challenge for the title. We predict that The Gunners will finish 4th in the league this season in the Premier League.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Premier League

Finishing 15th last season in the league for a club of this magnitude, was definitely going to be unacceptable and stakeholders and officials knew they needed to act, in strengthening the team and make sure that the manager has the right materials to make an impressive showing this season. Ruben Amorim, took charge of the team mid-season after United sacked Erik ten Hag, just few games into the season. United struggled throughout the season in the Premier League, with goal scoring, control in the midfield and the embarrassing goalkeeping problems.

The summer window has been a really busy one for United, doing everything to get the best arsenals for the manager to work with. Manchester United have added players like Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, Bryan Mbuemo, Benjamin Sesko, amongst to the squad strengthening the team ion attack and defence going forward. Manchester United are also reportedly working on a deal to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton and also Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG.

These summer additions will ensure that United look sharp in attack, gain more control in the middle and also solve the goalkeeping problems. Their preseason games this summer, has shown a lot of promise and the expectation is that United will do much better than last season. Here at SportsXG, we predict a 5th place finish for the Red Devils.

Finally, the upcoming Premier League season is definitely one that promises to be an exciting one. We cannot wait to experience what the other teams have to offer. The likes of Spurs, Aston Villa and Newcastle are also expected to put up the challenge this season, to make the league as competitive as ever and even more.
