Ex-Manchester United no.1 shot stopper David De Gea, makes a return to Old Trafford to face his former club, Manchester United, today as the English side faces Italian side Fiorentina, in what will be their last preseason match before the start of the 2025/2026 Premier League season.

David De Gea left Manchester United, after playing 545 matches for the club. He left under the direction of Ex manager Erik ten-Hag, who expressed that the Spaniard was not the kind of keeper he needed in the post as he was not comfortable using his feet.

However, many at Manchester United, including fans across the globe, believe that the Spaniard had been the club’s safest pair of hands, after Edwin van Der Sar, having spent 12 years at the club. His magnificent and unbelievable saves, and incredible acrobatic shot stopping ability earned him the name, ‘DaveSaves’.

Following his rather unceremonious departure from the club, many affiliates of the club, including players, fans and officials believe it was not the right way for such a legend to leave the Old Trafford outfit. In view of this, with him returning, there has been plans to honor him. To give him a proper send-off he deserves as a true servant and legend of the club.

Yesterday, after the launch of the new Carrington, David De Gea was spotted in the new facilities, having chats with his former boss, Sir Alex Ferguson and some other officials. Before his coming, he had a chat with club captain, Bruno Fernandes, who expressed his desire to score against his former teammate. However, De Gea argued that he will not allow Bruno to score against him, and even if he does score, it means he just allowed him to score.

Undoubtedly, Dave’s magnificent service to the Red Devils, did not go unnoticed and it is one that will forever be appreciated by the club.
